Vacation

I don't take them very often.  But tomorrow I'm off to Pawley's Island, SC for a week of pure relaxation.  Here's a view from the house where I'll be staying.  I'm going to wake up to this view everyday.

And I leave, warmed by the celebration of Fred's and my 26th anniversary. The actual anniversary was on 9/4. We waited to enjoy an anniversary dinner on 9/5 at one of our favourite Charlotte restaurants - Fiamma. After a magnificent meal (all meals are magnificent at Fiamma) they brought us a special dessert.

The cheesecake was incredible. But Fred's gift to me was the true treat. When I get home from Pawleys, I'm to pick out a wheel (which I can set up at Storybrook!) Yes, he's one supportive fella. Little wonder we've been together for 26 years. My gift to him I'll write about later.

For now, I'm ready to nose the CRV towards Pawley's Island. And lest you think I'll be a totally lazy girl, have a look at our "Curb It" recycling container.

There's over 25 pounds of clay in there. Ahhh. I can't imagine a better way to spend a nicer evening -- sitting on a beach front porch, enjoying the scents and sounds of salt air and surf, while pinching and molding all that clay!

My goal is to relax.  And use up every scrap of that clay.

what a great view! have fun with the clay. You'll be missed tho as classes start this week. Will be great to see what your creations are when you return. And, if you think of it, bringing back seashells for the next barrel firing would be wonderful, as I learned today at the potter's festival that seashells with the ocean smell still on them are a good thing... (I can explain later) oh, yeah you may know this already. peace!

Enjoy Pawley's Island. I did a workshop for a friend of mine down there many years ago, actually Murril's inlet. They housed me in a real Litchfield beach house. Beautiful house, beautiful beach, beautiful area, great people. I miss the Blenhiem's(?) Ginger ale. I really liked the 'hotter' one.

Oh, yeah and the 'baked' (actually steamed) oysters. Yum!

Oh man, I am so envious!
I grew up down there and used to paddle my kayak through the sound. My first art lessons were at Prezkop's Gallery, he was a very well known painter back in the day. I wonder if his stuff is still around. My mom would pick me up from class and then we would go eat at The Hammock Shop.
Good days, have a wonderful time, hope no hurricanes roll through.

It's great to be home, though I could have stayed an extra week or 52.

Amy - I didn't bring back many seashells but I do have a bagful of seaweed. :)

Elaine - I saw a mermaid!!!

John - Great times! Sorry I missed the workshop though. I hope you'll fill me in.

Russel - Hello! Thanks for stopping by. I didn't even THINK to look for Blenhiems (not sure how it's spelled either.) Not sure I've had their hottest. The mildest is pretty hot to me. (lightweight)

tsbroome - You grew up down there? Now I'm the envious one. I very much enjoy your blog by the way. I hear you did some work with Charlotte Rep? We have a common bond then.

Doug - Thank you! And thanks for the puppy pic on your blog. I have a lot of blogs to ctach up on. Comin' your way for that! :)

Amy (aka Bubblicious) - it was the best! But I'm glad to be back in classes again & hope to see you around Clayworks soon!
