Simply Saturday

Most Saturdays, after enjoying a cup of coffee or two at Storybrook, I throw together my bag o’ stuff and head for Clayworks. Usually it’s about a 15 minute drive. But recently I changed my route to add a little variety (and about 5 minutes more driving time). I’m glad I did. If I hadn’t I would have missed a couple of simple gems. This for instance…

I didn’t realize until I stopped by the roadside to snap these pictures that this wild and magnificent convertible is actually an advertisement. For a much better picture of the car and a description of what the artist who created it does, visit here.

This particular stretch of street is lined with junkyards, some dilapidated houses, and a maintenance center for city buses. Yet, just a block or so beyond the car, somebody tucked this little surprise into a chain link fence. A simple gesture. A gift. I like to think it brings a bit of joy to drivers passing by on their morning commute into Uptown. It never fails to make me smile on Saturday mornings.

And it was a beautiful day. I spent most of it at Clayworks doing little bits of this and that, catching up with friends, getting pieces ready for the firing of the gas kiln.

Once I got home, there was enough daylight left to take a couple of pictures of things I love in my own backyard.

The Lenten Roses won’t last too much longer, certainly not until Easter. The geese are regular residents though. Before too long, we’ll have lots of downy little ones to delight us when we wander down to the pond.

Dinnertime found the pantry was bare. So Fred & I dined at the cozy family restaurant up the street. Nothing fancy about the fare...just home-cooked veggies and sweet tea. Then it was home to veg the rest of the evening away, with three cats taking turns sitting on two laps and our camera-shy Spanky actually letting me take a picture of him.

Simply Saturday. Simply wonderful!

A miracle isn't it? Either he's sick or an alien APBT has taken control of Spanky's body. He seemed normal today though...begging to go out and play ball...begging for leftover cheese...barking at the dogs who were barking across the lake because they heard him barking here. :) xxxooobackatcha

Hey Becky, I`m back from my self imposed excile. Just read about your Saturday. What a great day you had. I really enjoyed the car photo`s, that illustrates the reason I try not to go the same way twice. I`m constantly amazed at the stuff I see, within a mile of the hogon, that I never knew was there. Love the lake, bet the wild life is constantly changing. I`ve learned a lot from my dogs. I`m still trying to incorporate the nap lesson.

Ahhh, John, welcome back! It's very good to see your traveler face again. Yes, it was a very nice Saturday. I think some of life's greatest lessons might be found in the simplest things? The nap lesson can be a tough one though.
