Good Day, Sunshine

Sunny here today, after a windy, chilly Saturday. I spent most of it at Clayworks being productive. The wheel was good to me; nothing ended up on the Alter of the Wedging Table. I threw 3 bowls, the largest I've managed to make yet. (Yes, I was all smiles.) I decided to take a break from cone 10 clays and went with a speckled brownstone this time, which means I'll see the fruits of my labour a lot sooner. The oxidation kilns are continuously firing, while it's often weeks between reduction firings. I have about 25 pieces waiting to go in the gas kiln. It will fire soon, but it will be nice to get these bowls back a little sooner. I also glazed the first of my little porcelain birds. He's ready for the raku party this Tuesday.

Greg Scott's Advanced class will have their raku firing a week from Wednesday. After talking with one of his students, I decided I'd like to raku a cave art piece. So I brought home a piece of greenware and spent last night working on this guy.

He won't be ready by Tuesday, but hopefully Greg won't mind adding one more piece when he fires. Enough chatter from me. The sun is shining and Spanky is giving me that "lets go for a walk" look. Time to whip this lazy carcass into action. There's plenty of Sunday left to savour! And an extra hour of daylight to play!

That`s going to be beautiful. I like the design of the bull and the shape of the piece. Your gaining confidence. This is good.

Hi, LLS! Thanks for stopping by. That piece was originally meant to just use up the rest of the porcelain I had on hand. I had no plans to "creaturize" it until I was told that raku clear crackle can look great over underglazes. (So now I'll have 2 pieces to try that way, including Bird 1.) Please keep your fingers crossed for the little bird tomorrow night. I may have tried to get too tricky with him.

Don't know if I'm gaining confidence so much as naive bravery. But I'm working on it!

Is tonight the raku party? Anxious to see the little bird. I`m a little ADD, compulsive, and probaby a bit phobic to boot.
I hope the spirits are with the little bird.
