This is what I've been waiting for. But it happened sooner than expected. When I arrived at Clayworks I saw the message board...and it said "Gas Kiln loading on Thursday." Seeing as it was Wednesday, I knew I was in for a late night. I had mugs to be glazed. I had candle plates to be glazed. Christmas presents, you see. And since I'm not sure if the gas kiln will fire up again before the holidays, I HAD to get the giftware in.
So I smiled (I can do it!) I rolled up my sleeves. (I can do it!) I waxed the bottom of all of my coffee mugs. (I can do it!) And I ate the half sandwich left from my lunch at Talleys, coz' I knew I couldn't do it on an empty stomach. Then I proceeded to dip and pour...dip and pour...dip and pour. And so did Sooz. She, too, is working on Christmas gifts...her exquisite chalices. And her most wonderful piece that has a bird on the lid. (Sooz is a sculptress extraordinaire!!!)
By 9pm, I'd glazed my Christmas gifts. But my "cave art" yunomi were still on my shelf. They've been there a long, long time. Because these are the pieces I really care about. They are still "test tiles" in a sense. But I spent a lot of time doing slip work on them. And I really wanted them to shine. So I asked Greg for some suggestions on how to glaze them and he offered several possibilities.
I have no idea how they will turn out. I'm sure I could have done more. Or less? This is what they look like tonight, as they await the reduction firing.

I'll post a pic of these guys after they're fired. I have high hopes for them. And I'm anxious to see how the pictured plate in the background turns out. Do you see a fish form? Or a cat? That answer is 50/50 here at Clayworks. What do you think?
