Four Day Weekend

Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays. It's the calm before the storm, I guess. But it's also a starting gun for the crazy race that leads to Christmas. I appreciate both aspects of the day. And I sure do appreciate the 4-day weekend.

Day 1 (Thanksgiving) was lovely. I made cornbread for the stuffing, and took the leftovers to the bird feeder outside the kitchen window. More crusts from wheat bread & French bread were scattered down by the pond for the geese and ducks. Birds need a Thanksgiving feast too. In the evening, Fred & I had our Thanksgiving dinner at Toni's house. We met the cast of "Raggs Holiday Jam" (the show opened today at Ovens) and ate until we could eat no more.

Day 2 (Today) This was OUR Thanksgiving. And it was almost all organic. Everything we had on the table was organic except for the gravy for the turkey and the cranberries in the relish. The turkey was the juiciest I've ever roasted. Fred seemed to love the sweet potatoes (part of last week's CSA share from New Moon farms.) I trust him on that. I'm not a fan of the sweet potato. Champagne toasts in the evening. Quite a wonderful day in many ways.

Tomorrow - Day 3 - I head to Clayworks to do some glazing. The Gas Kiln gets loaded again on Sunday and I have a few more pieces I want to throw in that mix. The cave art pinch pots are two of them. They survived the bisque firing beautifully...and silly as it sounds, I have been dreaming about these pieces all week. (I know, I know, I'm obsessed) So tomorrow I hope to do them justice with the glazing process. In the evening, we will see "Raggs" at Ovens. "Raggs" is my other obsession...my main one when all is said and done. Nothing fulfills me more than writing songs for "Raggs." Except, maybe, seeing a youngster dance and sing along to songs I've helped write. THAT lights me up!

Day 4 will be Sunday. Fred & I may see a movie. I need to string the Christmas lights on our deck. It will be hard to say g'bye to this wonderfully long weekend. But come Monday I know I'll go back to work refreshed. And I'll be ready to take on just about anything.

There's power in the calm before the storm. It helps one weather what lies ahead. And that's what I like about Thanksgiving.
