A Man Named Pearl

There really is a man named Pearl. Pearl Fryar. Of Bishopville, SC. I'm not going to say much more about Pearl here, because you can find out a great deal more about the man if you 1) visit his home in Bishopville or 2) see the movie "A Man Named Pearl." It's already played in Charlotte, but may soon be picked up for national distribution. Here's a pic of Fred (my decidedly better half) and Pearl at the opening of the film, which Fred scored. (Forgive me while I puff my chest with pride)

If you missed the film's debut, you will soon have the chance to watch it on DVD. And there's so much to see! For starters, have a look at Pearl's yard.

As you can see, Pearl knows a thing or two thousand about the wonders of pruning shears. This is my favourite Pearl topiary.

It seems the birds appreciate Pearl's artistry as well.

Little wonder. Pearl makes sure that his casa is their casa.

Pearls of Wisdom adorn the Fryars' yard. Pearl used to work at a cannery. He made good use of scrap metal to get his message across.

You really should take a trip to Bishopville, SC to see Pearl's handiwork. Just stop at the Waffle House and get directions.
If you can't make the trip, do watch for the DVD. Pearl Fryar is living proof that miracles are often found in our own backyards. Certainly they are in his!
