Instead of Elaine's special BBQ chicken, I fed on antibiotics. Instead of going to the Lark And Key to see the Songcatcher exhibit, I watched a Netflix movie and fell asleep one third of the way into it. But I did enjoy the company of 3 cats, 1 pit bull and a loving husband. The cats make marvelous heating pads, the pit bull provides comic relief, and Fred brought me the most delicious watermelon (as well as chauffeuring me to Urgent Care the moment he woke up - "Good morning, honey!")
Lest you think I'm boo-hooing (well I did a bit yesterday) I did find a way to turn my down time into something productive. My La-Z-Gal is where I often play with clay. So. Since I had to be in the recliner, that's exactly what I did.
This fella is actually a pinch pot. ^10 porcelain. I'm thinking I'll use him to explore some of the techniques I'm learning in Greg's Surface Design class. I pinched a couple of "nose" pots too, inspired by some pictures I saw in a fantastic book that Elaine loaned me "The Spirit of Clay" by Robert Piepenburg. But I preferred the beak treatment.

It wasn't quite the 3-day weekend I'd anticipated. But we did enjoy a nice 4th of July (and I hope everyone who celebrates it did too.) Next weekend belongs to the regular old 2-day variety. But Saturday is our second barrel firing so it will be just as exciting.

I LOVE this, stunning! WOW......what part of the book did I MISS. It has had a wonderful influence on you!
I'm sorry to hear you're still feeling bad. Get well soon.
Wow! I'm ashamed to bring my old "barnacle" pinched pots in for the barrel firing now! That's quite an amazing piece.
Aww shucks, y'all. :) Thanks for MAKING my Monday!
how gorgeous--- the piece just flows--- so gentle. Looks like I'll only have bowls for the barrel firing if they get bisque fired this week. :( they're sitting on the shelf ready for the kiln. Can they be functional after fired? And, I checked with my dad about sawdust and he had gotten rid of what he had already, but will keep it from now on.... hope you're feeling better.
Hi, Amy
Thanks for the kind words. Smoked pieces are very much like raku. Not waterproof. Perhaps you'd prefer to do maybe just 1 or 2 bowls? No worries about the sawdust---I think we have enough for the 12th. But thanks mucho for asking your dad. Anything he can send later can be used in the future!
I am feeling better, thanks. :) Just have to stay the course with antibiotics. (boo hiss)
very exquisite and so fragile. nice stuff.
Poor you. Strawberries and sugar! Lovely pinching, you have a wonderfully intuitive way of taking the clay just far enough, but not too far, well done.
Get well soon
Hey Mr. Fitch! Just caught your post and do appreciate the get well wishes and sage advice - strawberries and sugar. :) Nothing could be finer!!!
We'll see if I pinched this bird too far. At the very least it will have lessons to offer.
