I tried some clay resist with a leaf on this one. Only one leaf survived.

I had better luck with the same technique on this member of the flock.

A couple of cardinals...(sorry this image is a bit blurry but you get the idea)

Then there's Mama, fired in "Bentley" the smoker barrel. Behind her is a small orb rattle.

In keeping with theme, I probably should have put wings on this little experiment. The spots came from clay resist, a technique I admire in Susan Halls' sawdust fired creatures. It's a rattle too.

Other pieces (many w/o terra sig) picked up very little colour. I'm sure placement was the culprit. But that's fine. I'll fire them again in Barrel Firing #3. The goal this time is to make a much larger piece...something that's particularly challenging for me, (ie danged impossible to date!) . Stay tuned. I have plenty of time & plenty of clay to wreck.

Hey Becky. The firing looks like it was a success and that you all had a good time. The pieces you have posted look great. Can't wait to see what you do for #3.
Hiya Ron! Thanks! Yes, it was great fun and I'm hooked. All the gals involved have challenged each other to try to make something bigger. One of these days we'll need more barrels...or maybe a pit!
Hope you, Sarah & Karma are enjoying summer!
Great job Becky (and all) can't wait to see the real things.
Thanks Max! Maybe you'd like to join us for the next one? You don't have to stay the entire time but if you do it's great fun!
Are you going to start a blog? I hope, I hope? :)
I might try (pottery) depends on work schedule right now.
