I also had a pretty good night on the wheel. I believe I've turned a corner during this class. I'm throwing bigger. Bats don't hang me up the way they used to. My pulls bring up more clay and I don't need to make as many as I used to. The clay centers faster for me, and while it doesn't always stay centered, I can often get it back to an acceptable place. Best of all, I just feel a lot more relaxed when I throw now. Things just "feel" so much better.
Tonight I went in knowing exactly what I wanted to make -- a lidded casserole.

I'd made a couple of honey pots in previous classes but they were much smaller. I figured this would be a lot harder. Uh-uh. Not that an 8" diameter casserole is gargantuan. But it's a big step for me. I also threw 3 lids - Mama lid, Papa lid and Baby lid as it turned out. Papa lid looks like he'll fit the bill, though Mama looked prettier. I'll trim and add handles on Thursday night.

This weekend I'll throw some more of these after I glaze, glaze, glaze.

Congratulation! When process of throwing becomes second nature, like an extension of your spirit you`ve made the leap. Good going on the cassarole, remember shrinkage and memory. I love trying different textures in wet clay especially various kinds of lace. If you texture the surface of functional ware be gentle, you still have to clean it, after use.
Most of all, have fun and take your time. Nice looking work.
Thanks LLS. Tonight I trimmed the lid, gave it a top knot and pulled some funky handles for the body. I'm sure my HUGE 8" casserole will be a 6" ramekin when all is said and done. But that's okay. Next time, I'll throw something twice as big. Funny you should mention lace. I have several pieces of my grandmother's and great grandmother's lace at the studio. Haven't mastered an exact replication of them yet on wet clay. But I've gotten interesting, random patterns using tatting with wax resist.
I am definitely having fun.
Becky, I am glad you are feeling good about your work and the class. Your pots are really looking nice. Keep at it.

Ron, thank you! I'm definitely learning a lot in your class and have signed up for more this Spring.
Becky,
I know Ron feels so good to know you have learned so much this time. At a point it just clicks!Jen
