Class, Candlesticks & Critters

Ron led a great class last night at Clayworks. I took a lot of mental notes (which probably means I’ll forget everything he demo-ed) but spent my time making candlesticks. He had some great advice on that, as did Susan, so I’m feeling a little more confident about the form. The biggest challenge for me is throwing the tops off the hump. The next time I have several hours to throw I’ll do the tops first and then bases.

After class I spent a couple of hours playing with this little gal. She’s under plastic at the moment; there are still things I need to finesse. But this is how she looked when I put her away for the night.

The babies were an afterthought but I like them. The whole point in making this was to have a tangible reminder of the day we helped rescue Mama Possum. Apparently she had been nursing two babies but there was only one when we found her. It seemed somehow fitting that both babies should be included on this little memory piece.

I'm sure she and her babies will sleep soundly protected by a hump top thrower.

Perhaps. If the hump top thrower recites Wood Art Words for a lullaby. Lovely poetry on your site, Paul. And some magical work with wood. Glad you stopped by.

Wah - she is too adorable.
I can see that our playing with all those little plastic animals when we were kids has paid off!

Ha, sis! Remember when I put some in the broiler at the farmhouse? Guess that was an omen there would be a kiln in my future? ;>

Yes, well...all this is so sweet I have a cavity!

I hate babies and I hate possum. So I doubly hate baby possum!!!

:-D

I only care for coffee mugs and honey pots! ;-)

Ahhh, Anonymous. So good to see you here. For your cavity I shall atone by throwing you a honey pot. But be forewarned. The handle on the lid may be a sweet baby possum. Guess you'll have to live with that. ;)

I like it and the sentiment behind it too. Sweet.
