Tradition

Some years back, Susan - a dear friend who re-introduced me to pottery - decided it would be a nice gift to take a day off at birthday time and spend that day at Clayworks. We did it for her birthday. We did it for mine. We would meet in the morning, work on respective projects, share a b-day lunch and celebrate each other's special day. It was a wonderful tradition. But as things got busier at our respective businesses, our birthday clay days took a back seat to meeting the "bottom line".
Until today.

Thank you, Sooz, for the very special remembrances. And thanks to all of my friends at Clayworks who shared special birthday wishes. Who knew that yucca branches could be turned into brushes with a little bit of saliva? (Thanks, Mary-Anne) Once I apply said saliva I will post a pic. Until that time, here are a couple of things I worked on today.
Pendants. Glazed all three of these - two will be fired to ^10, one is a test at ^5.

Coiling project for Sculpture Class. Coiling is not my forte. Maybe that's why I feel like I need to work at it? The project calls for a coiled sculpture...with 2 textures...at least 20" tall. (Yikes! My birds are about 2" high max!) This is what I'm working toward am but not feeling particularly confident about creating.

I'm pretty sure I've bitten off more than I can chew. But as long as I am learning I am happy.
And, birthday notwithstanding, as long as I can chew I'll be happy too. :>

Sorry I missed the actual, but happy birthday Becky. Sounded like the perfect day. I made 8-10 lbs of home "brew" this weekend. Two colors, one of which is new, untested yet.
