Autumn On Main

I've always loved the town of Mount Holly. Years ago when I was a kid (many, many years ago) I used to buy DC comic books in a wonderful soda shoppe there. I returned yesterday with Elaine, not to buy comic books (though if I'd seen any I might have) but to take part in Mount Holly's second annual "Autumn On Main". While there's nothing like the golden hue of autumn sunlight, we didn't see much of it. The day was overcast. Clouds threatened rain. But nothing dampened the enthusiasm of
the event planners, the vendors and the folks who came to enjoy an early taste of Autumn --on Main Street.

Both Elaine & I had new displays for our work. The poplar shelves Elaine's Dad built for her really did her beautiful pieces justice. I really love what she's been doing with surface design recently

Passersby agreed. We had a lot of folks visit our tent throughout the day. Here, Elaine explains her eight-step process.

And I was pleased with the change in my display. While it saddens me to see Smith & Hawkens go out of business, I felt very lucky to pick up some of their display boxes recently. They're a bit worn, a little rustic and I think they showcase the birds nicely. Between the two they hold 36 birds, fourteen of which found new homes.

While fine arts & crafts were a big part of the "Autumn On Main" celebration, there was so much more to savor. The musicians that performed were great! I had to sneak away from our booth a few times so I could catch a tune from Ang. She and Tom have a new CD - "Play Without Fear". It's great...and they do.

I had to sneak away a second time to catch the Cloers. I just recently met John and Cate, and was delighted to hear that they, too, will have a CD release in January. Both Ang and the Cloers play regularly in the area. If you have a chance to see them, I hope you will!

There's nothing like music to draw the young at heart...and the young.

And when the musicians are taking a break, the dogs get their fair share of adulation. These three Shelties will be dressed up as the "Red Hat Ladies' come Halloween. Boy, I'd LOVE to see that!

As an APBT owner (and an advocate for the breed) I was totally captivated by "Tate". This little fella was wonderful with kids of all ages...including me. It's not pictured, but for a few pets & a couple of hugs, I got a very thorough (and thoroughly sloppy) face-washing from this pit pup.

It was the perfect way to end a perfect day in Mount Holly. Everything about "Autumn On Main" was spot on. And the rain held off until well after the celebration ended. I can't wait to go back for the Christmas celebration during Mount HollyDays.

Gee, I didn't realize Smith & Hawken was out of business. I have a teak folding table from them I'm selling. Maybe I should hold on to it - it might become a collector's item. So glad you and Elaine had such a great time there. Both displays really do look wonderful and complement the ceramic pieces you had displayed. Seems like there's' lots of good festivals in your neck of the woods, can't wait till I get to head out from here.

Displays looked great and it sure looked like a lot of fun. At some point selling pottery is just "icing on the cake". :8^)
