I haven't posted about pottery in a while...not because I haven't been busy at the studio. But I prefer to post with pictures and I seldom remember to take my camera to Clayworks. (I'll try to rectify this tomorrow.) I have been anything but slothful, however. In fact, I have several projects going on simultaneously.
-- Teacups. My attempts at yunomi yielded 5 decent lil' pieces. None are the same size of course, but I'm pleased with them nonetheless. I spent a good deal of time preparing them for bisque firing, deciding to incorporate some of the cave art motifs on actual pieces rather than test tiles. All survived the first firing and are waiting patiently on my shelf until I have the time/inspiration to apply the final glazes.
-- Bowl. My first handbuilt project has also been slipped and may be in the bisque kiln as I type. It seems gargantuan to me. (Since I STILL can't THROW anything larger than a small soupbowl.) And it's a very different style for me. Time will tell if it grows on me, but it still has a long way to go.
-- Coffee mugs. I'm working on these for Christmas gifts. Need to make 5-10 (depending on how productive I can be and whether or not the Wheel Muse is on my side.)
-- Handbuilt odds & ends. Since handbuilding is new to me, I'm playing around with bits of this and that. A tumbler I made will serve as a big test tile because I really don't care for it at all. I was in a hurry to complete it and it shows. Still, it was a learning experience and might yield some surface decoration ideas. There's also a fish dish I made that I'll do some pre-bisque surface decoration on tomorrow. I've also made a mold, which I'll use to make several candle plates for gifting over the holidays.
I'll be spending most of the day in the studio tomorrow and all day Monday too, so I should be able to get a lot accomplished. I don't know how many more reduction firings there will be between now and Christmas. So I'd better get busy!
